He bought an 850i. but not just any run of the mill 850i.....
Yes, that’s a 6 speed. I’m having trouble containing my desire for this car.
Wow I am looking forward to his build thread

I really hope he configures the car phone to do some James Bond shit.

Whatever he does, it’s guaranteed to be excellent. This is the car he’s selling to make room for the E31

His previous car was one of the nicest E30s I’ve ever seen, so I’m really stoked to see how this one is gonna look

Damn, that’s nice.

I think i’ve seen that car, where are you located?

It’s mad that it’s manual and not a CSi. Seriously, the manual non-CSis need to be rarer, right?

There is want.

Cool. I saw one of those (not sure if it was a 6 speed) sitting in front of someone’s body shop a couple of months back. Looked like it was being parted out. Was a shame really.

the dude that bought that car new was some serious hot sh!t

Only one I ever drove was kind of a dog. Wish it was as fast as I thought it'd be.

Three of these are by me. One is a BMW Motorsports /M package. Insanely rare, one of less than 75. Two are “regular” 850CSi cars. Two are black, the third is bright yellow. Whenever I see them we chat it up about having 90s German V12s and discuss how to approach maintenance.

If you’re into e36's, that is lot of car for $4k.

There are an amazing number of E31s in Vancouver...and there was a point last summer where it felt like every member of the club felt like dumping them at reasonable prices (in worthless loonies, no less). Craigslist became an even more dangerous (to my finances) browse than ever. If my M3 hadn't blown up its VANOS bolts I'd have an E31 next to it by now, no joke.

Yeah, seems like e31s are in kind of an awkward period. Not fast enough to be sporty, not funky-looking enough to be a classic.
But once pedestrian safety regs have have had a couple decades to saturate, I think people will see these like we see e24s now.

My pants are ruined!

I remember that time, it’s surprising how many cars that should be uncommon are on craigslist most of the time. Oh rough, yeah I haven’t bought a VANOS car yet, I plan to avoid it if I can
![]() 02/28/2016 at 00:15 |

That’s extremely cool, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one with the M package

Probably wouldn’t be, even if it was, I’m sure the transmission would be saved. I hope at least.

I would think so, although I wonder if it’s been swapped in, a non-cis 6 speed does seem quite strange

I don’t even want one for speed reasons, I just think they look amazing. Especially for how old the design is. There’s another local guy with a 6 speed swapped into an 840 that he supercharged, that one is properly quick....

I think the only way you could surprise the people at BMW more with your order, would have been to spec a manual 750i

Right? I’d be all over it if I had the spare cash

I met someone with an 850CSI. Manual, but I think they all are.

The first time I saw it, I didn’t think it was real because much like my SL being an AMG package car, the 850CSi BMW Motorsports package was very understated and not flashy at all. The one by me has a strut bar, some plastic trim pieces with ///M on them, and BMW Motorsports door handles. Apparently there were about 150 cars made total like that, and 72 or so the last year. Luckily, the one owner is super nice and he also knows a ton about the car. He had to sell it a few years back, and ended up buying it back from the guy because he just couldn’t stand not having the car.

It’s perfect!

The thing about those is, they look a lot faster than they are. I like them... for looking at.

About six months back I was watching a super clean looking one sell on eBay for no reserve. It was owned by some suburban Floridian. If I remember correctly it sold for around $11500.

There are a handful in my area.
![]() 02/28/2016 at 12:54 |

That's on the high end....I've noticed they're getting even higher on eBay though

The car is definitely a really cool car, but it would never been on any of my wish lists at that price point.
![]() 02/28/2016 at 13:18 |

That is exactly what I was thinking.
![]() 02/28/2016 at 13:19 |

If that was on the price spectrum for it it was very nearly worth it.

Car phone! I will own an 8 series one day, but probably be practical and get the 8 cylinder. Or, you know, fuck it.
![]() 02/28/2016 at 21:51 |

If I was being smart about it I’d get the V8. I mean it’s a lighter motor than can easily be chipped to the output of the V12. There really is something about a V12 though.....

Never mind then! I’m down here in Alabama; but there is someone who comes to the local cars and coffee who has one exactly like that, what a coincidence.
